The Reunion's Beginning
The first meeting was held at the home of Gilbert and Darlene L'Heureux on December 12, 1983 at 7:30. George and Gisele L'Heureux, Gil and Darlene L'Heureux, Henry and Toni L'Heureux, Marcel and Lucille L'Heureux and Ami L'Heureux were present.
George nominated Darlene for secretary for the evening; Gil seconded. Henry moved nominations cease. Darlene accepted.
It was discussed that a chairperson was needed. Gil nominated Marcel. Toni seconded. Gisele moved that nominations cease. Marcel accepted.
A site was discussed for holding the reunion. Henry made a motion that the flats north of Henry L'Heureux's be seeded to grass and used as a campground. Seconded by George. Carried.
The following points were then discussed:
- Saturday, July 4th and Sunday, July 5th, 1987 be set as the dates for the L'Heureux Centennial Reunion.
- People will be notified that if they wish to help set up and clean up before and after the week-end, the facilities at the campground will be there and they will be very welcome.
- The campground be divided into family groups and a map printed and handed out at registration.
- A central area possibly with a tent and power (Uncle Marcel to check into power) be set up with a large tank of water for washing, etc.
- That someone be put in charge of policing to help keep order and for general information.
- Entertainment - to be held in the central tent such as a dance, a talent night. Tours of farm, horseback rides, softball tournaments could also be organized.
- Food - it was suggested that one pancake breakfast and one supper be organized.
- Advertising - a family tree be compiled and printed up and sold to help cover the costs of the reunion.
- Registration - color-coded tags be handed out at registration (each branch of the family to have their own color.)
- Someone could check with police on laws and insurance, etc.
- It was suggested that the reunion be kept to descendants of Moise and Sophie L'Heureux.
- Hats and T-Shirts would be printed up and sold to help pay for some of the costs.
- The reunion should be officially called the L'Heureux Centennial Reunion.
It was discussed and decided upon that we needed a treasurer. Gilbert moved that Henry be nominated as treasurer. Seconded by Gisele. Ami moved that nominations cease. Henry accepted.
Gilbert moved that Henry open an account at the bank of his choice under the name "L'Heureux Centennial Reunion" and that any donations be recorded and placed in this account. Seconded by Gisele. Carried.
